Lazy days in Lao

Greetings from Lao

This is probably the most relaxed, slow-paced country we have visited. We started in Don Det (4000 islands) in the deep south of the mekong river. Beautiful little spot with bungalows along the river. It only has electricity from 6-10pm each day, and when you order a milkshake you hear them crank up the generator just to get the blender working ha.
There are no roads on the island only paths so we hired bikes to explore for a day. Tried a "happy shake" which looked rather strong with a layer of green sludge resting on top, but ended up making an enjoyable afternoon gazing at waterbuffalo in the sun and munching down cake mmm cake. We had a nice dinner out with 2 other couples we met on our travels, 1 from Belgium and the other from Canada (yah).
Took a bus (really an open air cart) to Tadlo falls which was a remote little spot up in the highlands (Jase wanted to get off the tourist trail haha). Nice place for trekking, we decided to explore on our own and met a cute group of village kids who became our tour guides and led us up a secret track to the waterfall. They then gave us swimming races and dive competitions, it was classic, not a word of english spoken the whole time, lots of fun, the oldest one walked at the back of the group behind us, to make sure we didnt fall on the rocks or get left behind!
Next was the over night bus to Vientiane (the capital). Was hoping to meet Bethaney and Jarrod here but looks like we just missed each other. Visited a forest temple yesterday and had rustic suana and massage in the forest which was fab.
Jase got severe food poisoning (chicken samosas I think) so ended up taking him to hospital last night, couldnt even have a sip of water without puking or running to the toilet, so had to pay a random guy to take us there on his motorbike as no tuktuks around. The hospital was great put him on a drip for 5hrs then we walked back to our guesthouse at 5am (still not tuktuks around). Hes better today but taking it easy.
Love to all.

That photo is absoulutely amazing, I can't believe places like that actually exist. Also can't believe about the power, its crazy the things that we take for granted here, I can't even imagine not have power for the majority of the time and the inconvience of charging up a generator to make a milkshake. I'm so jealous of your trip! Where do you go next? What's on your iternery? V cool that your made other traveler friends as well.

Btw, is it "Laos" or "Lao"? I've heard people refer to it as Laos and then others with no 's'? Confusing.

ooh yuk, food poisoning is horrible. I was watching a doco on cholera yesterday, it said basically you die because of uncontrollable diaareah..basically the life just drops out of you. I could think of nicer ways to go.
That photo is gorgeous by the way, and the kids sound adorable.
